⭐Summary In English:-

Once a monkey lived alone in a tree on a river bank. The tree was laden with fruit. The monkey ate the fruit of his choice to his fill. The monkey was happy but his happiness was not complete. He missed a friend to talk to and share the fruits with. One day a crocodile happened to come there. The monkey offered him fruit to eat.

The crocodile found the fruit delicious. He visited the monkey regularly and ate the fruits. Both of them became close friends. The crocodile ate the fruits himself. He also carried some of them for his wife too. The two friends talked about birds and animals. They talked about the villagers nearby and their difficulty in raising good crops for lack of rain.

One day the crocodile’s wife asked him about his friend. The crocodile told her that his friend was a nice monkey who sent fruits for her everyday. The crocodile’s wife expressed her desire to eat the monkey’s heart. She ordered him to bring the monkey. The crocodile refused. This annoyed her much. Still the crocodile was unwilling to invite his friend home. He loved the monkey much and did not want to see him killed.

In the end the crocodile gave way to his wife’s wish. He reached the river bank. He told the monkey that his (crocodile’s) wife had invited him (the monkey) over for a meal. The monkey accepted the invitation. He rode the crocodile’s back and reached the middle of the river. There the crocodile told the monkey that his wife would eat his heart. The monkey asked the crocodile to carry him back to bring his heart from the tree. The crocodile got trapped. He swam back and reached the river bank.

The monkey jumped on to the tree. He bade the crocodile goodbye for ever. The crocodile was sad on losing a friend. He shed real tears.

एक बार एक बन्दर नदी के किनारे एक वृक्ष के ऊपर अकेला रहता था। वह पेड़, फलों से लदा हुआ था। बन्दर, चुने हुए फलों को पेट भर कर खाता था। बंदर खुश था पर उसकी खुशी पूरी नहीं थी। उसे बातें करने के लिए और अपने फलों को बाँटने के लिए किसी मित्र की कमी खटकती थी। एक दिन, एक मगरमच्छ वहाँ आया। बन्दर ने उसे खाने के लिए फल पेश किए।

मगरमच्छ को फल स्वादिष्ट लगे। वह नित्य बन्दर के पास चला जाता था और फलों को खा लिया करता था। वे दोनों गहरे मित्र बन गए थे। मगरमच्छ स्वयं फल खाता था। वह उनमें से कुछ अपनी पत्नी के लिए भी ले जाता था। दोनों मित्र पक्षियों और पशुओं के बारे में चर्चा करते थे। वे आस-पास के ग्रामीणों और वर्षा की कमी के कारण अच्छी फसलों को उगाने में उनकी कठिनाइयों की चर्चा करते थे।

एक दिन मगरमच्छ की पत्नी ने उससे उसके मित्र के बारे में पूछा। मगरमच्छ ने उसे बताया कि उसका मित्र एक नेक बन्दर है जो उसके लिए प्रतिदिन फल भेजता है। मगरमच्छ की पत्नी ने उस बन्दर के हृदय को खाने की इच्छा प्रकट की। उसने उसे आज्ञा दी कि बन्दर को ले आओ। मगरमच्छ ने मना कर दिया। इससे वह बेहद चिढ़ गई। फिर भी, मगरमच्छ अपने मित्र को घर पर आमन्त्रित करने के लिए अनिच्छुक था।

अन्त में मगरमच्छ ने अपनी पत्नी की इच्छा के सामने घुटने टेक दिए। वह नदी के किनारे पहुँचा। उसने बन्दर को बताया कि उस (मगरमच्छ) की पत्नी ने उसे (बन्दर को) भोजन के लिए आमन्त्रित किया है। बंदर ने निमन्त्रण स्वीकार कर लिया। वह मगरमच्छ की पीठ पर सवार हो गया और नदी के बीच में पहुँच गया। वहाँ मगरमच्छ ने बन्दर को बताया कि उस (मगरमच्छ) की पत्नी उस (बन्दर) के हृदय को खाएगी। बन्दर ने मगरमच्छ से कहा कि वृक्ष के ऊपर से वह अपना हृदय लेने के लिए वह उसे वापस ले चले। मगरमच्छ, चाल में आ गया। वह वापस तैरने लगा और नदी के तट पर पहुँच गया।

बन्दर, छलांग लगा कर वृक्ष के ऊपर चढ़ गया। उसने हमेशा के लिए मगरमच्छ को अलविदा कह दिया। मगरमच्छ को मित्र के खोने का दु:ख था। उसने असली आँसू बहाये।
